Mamma Mia
Mamma Mia - here I go again.
Marisa was in the fall musical, Mamma Mia. Going back to the theme of Marisa has a hard time making decisions, we could tell she wanted to, but was holding herself back and pretty much saying she didn't think she was going to audition. I thought it would be great for her - she loves singing - a very American experience, what more could she want?
In Germany, schools do not have activities tied in, or things like band/choir, let alone musicals or organized sports.
She talked about wanting to do it, but as soon as she got here, she was dragging her feet on auditioning.
Girl - don't leave here with regrets. Even her parents were messaging me asking me to do what I could to get her to move forward with the audition.
It continues to baffle me how a 15-year-old girl could travel across the world by herself, but when she gets here continue to drag her feet and needs to be pushed into things. This is a once in a lifetime experience - don't let it pass you by.
Don't. go. home. with. regrets. I will keep repeating this all year.
I semi-forced her to go down to the basement together to work on the songs in a private space, and Quinn even came down to recite the lines for "Donna" while Marisa played the daughter, "Sophie".
Finally - Marisa went through with the audition and participated in Mamma Mia in the supporting chorus.
In hindsight, she has indicated it was good for her to be a part of an activity, meeting new people and getting out of the house. High school is too busy during the day to slow down and meet people.
New Prague is very lucky to have the musical/theater/drama programs that they do with very talented and dedicated teachers they have at the helm. It was a wonderful show. High school Jackie is jealous that the high school musicals of today are so fun like that. I had a blast partaking in high school musicals, but Oklahoma anybody? Come on, not the same as what is offered today.
Well done, Marisa and the cast/crew of Mamma Mia last fall!
